Research Scientist

Northeastern University•Boston, MA
•$67,855 - $95,845

About The Position

Northeastern University is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to lead computational modeling efforts investigating the effects of non-ionizing electromagnetic fields on the human nervous system. Under the direction of Prof. Yarossi, the Research Scientist will lead development of realistic head models, tissue segmentation pipelines, E-field simulations, and biophysical neuron models. The position will collaborate closely with the Northeastern Center for Translational Neuroimaging and supervise a Research Engineer and a graduate student supporting the project. The role requires a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field, along with demonstrated experience in computational modeling of electromagnetic fields in biological tissue and/or neuron modeling. U.S. citizenship is required to comply with federal government contract requirements; security clearance is not required. The expected hiring range is $67,855 to $95,845. Starting salary depends on factors including education, experience, location, knowledge, expertise, skills, and comparison with similarly situated employees. Northeastern offers a comprehensive benefits package to eligible employees, including medical, vision, dental, paid time off, tuition assistance, wellness and life benefits, retirement benefits, and commuting and transportation benefits.

Requirements

  • PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in computational modeling of electromagnetic fields in biological tissue and/or neuron modeling.
  • Experience with E-field simulation platforms such as SimNIBS, Sim4Life, CST Studio Suite, or ANSYS HFSS.
  • Experience with neuron modeling software such as NEURON, or with neural mass modeling approaches.
  • Strong background in numerical methods, biophysical modeling, and simulation of neural dynamics.
  • Ability to independently lead technical work and mentor junior staff.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for scientific reporting and publication.
  • U.S. citizenship is required. Security clearance is not required.
