About The Position

The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine is seeking a Research Scientist to assist the Principal Investigator in the management and performance of research projects and experiments. This role will provide support on projects in the lab related to the development of microscopy and image analysis technologies and methods, and the study of heart structure and function.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in Science or related disciplines

Responsibilities

  • Tissue harvesting, micro dissection, reagent preparation, tissue cryosectioning, preparation of samples for optical microscopy including super-resolution microscopy.
  • Optical microscopy imaging of biological samples using confocal microscopy, fluorescence lifetime imaging, single molecule localization imaging, stimulated emission depletion microscopy and other super-resolution modalities.
  • Design, construction, and use of custom microscopy setups for high throughput, high resolution microscopy in collaboration with researchers within the lab and beyond.
  • Training of lab members including students and postdoctoral fellows in optical physics concepts and microscopy methods.
  • Maintenance of cell lines and primary cell cultures for experiments.
  • Performance of basic molecular biology experiments including Western blots and PCR.
  • Maintenance and ordering of reagents and equipment as needed including performing simple maintenance on experimental equipment.
  • Compilation and organization of data for manuscripts and grant proposals.
