Research Scientist Intern, AI Research - Speech & Audio (PhD)
About The Position
Meta AI is seeking a Research Scientist Intern for its Speech & Audio AI Research team. The team develops spoken-language technology that helps people build community and connect around the world. It conducts product-motivated machine learning and AI research, designing, developing, and deploying state-of-the-art algorithms. The work covers speech and audio processing, with a primary focus on speech with large language models (LLMs) for speech-LLM-based products. The intern will develop models and algorithms and apply them to large-scale production speech tasks. Internships last 12 to 24 weeks, with various start dates throughout the year.
Requirements
- Currently has or is pursuing a PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, or a related field.
- Research or work experience in machine learning, deep learning, and speech technology.
- Experience training deep neural networks for speech tasks such as speech recognition, speech translation, speech synthesis, speaker diarization, sentiment analysis, acoustic event recognition, wake word, or scene understanding.
- Experience with Python.
- Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment by the time of hire and maintain work authorization during employment.
Nice To Haves
- A record of results demonstrated through grants, fellowships, patents, or first-authored publications at workshops or conferences such as Interspeech, ACL, or ICASSP.
- Experience working on speech LLMs.
- Experience manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources.
- Experience working and communicating cross-functionally in a team environment.
- Intent to return to a degree program after completing the internship or co-op.
Responsibilities
- Perform research to advance the science and technology of intelligent machines.
- Develop novel and accurate speech algorithms and systems using deep learning and machine learning on large data resources.
- Contribute research that can be applied to Meta product development.
- Analyze and improve the efficiency, scalability, and stability of deployed systems.
- Collaborate with team members from prototyping through production.
