About The Position

Meta Reality Labs Research’s Surreal Vision group seeks emerging scientists and researchers to conduct cutting-edge research on novel computational imaging systems and robotics. The work aims to develop foundational technologies for future contextual AI-enabled devices and robots. Internships last 12 to 24 weeks, with various start dates throughout the year; some projects may require a minimum of 24 consecutive weeks. The position pays $7,650 to $12,667 per month, plus benefits.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or in the process of obtaining a PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Vision, Computational Imaging, Robotics, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated research experience in computational imaging, computer vision, robotics, or machine learning.
  • Experience with Python environments such as PyTorch and with Unix environments.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment by the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to commit to 24 consecutive weeks of full-time internship work.
  • Broad understanding of the sensing pipeline, from optics and sensors through machine learning to high-level machine perception, contextual AI, and robot control.
  • Experience applying imaging or perception systems to robotics applications.
  • A track record of significant results demonstrated through grants, fellowships, patents, or publications at leading workshops, conferences, or journals, such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ICCP, ACM SIGGRAPH, ACM TOG, ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICRA, IROS, RSS, or CoRL.
  • Experience building hardware research prototypes in close collaboration with a broad cross-functional team.
  • Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, tradeoffs, and diverse perspectives to determine a path forward.
  • Software engineering experience through an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used open-source contributions, such as on GitHub.
  • Experience working and communicating cross-functionally in a team environment.
  • Intent to return to a degree program after completing the internship or co-op.

Responsibilities

  • Create novel, efficient, high-performance computational imaging systems and components using optics, sensors, algorithms, and machine learning for contextual AI and robotics sensing applications.
  • Explore novel and emerging sensing modalities and improve sensing capabilities in challenging imaging conditions.
  • Design, develop, prototype, execute, and analyze advanced imaging and perception systems under real-world latency, power, and form-factor constraints.
  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers across optics, materials, and robotics in a cross-functional, interdisciplinary team.
