About The Position

The Department of Biochemistry is hiring a Research Scientist/Engineer Assistant to apply biochemistry and protein design to cancer immunotherapy. The role uses protein design to systematically modulate T cells and improve immune cell behavior in cancer immunotherapy. The candidate will work on site using provided desktops and computational tools developed at the Institute for Protein Design. The position focuses on designing de novo proteins against cancer and immune targets, understanding the immune cell biology behind selected targets, participating in weekly lab meetings, and documenting computational workflows so other lab members can use them.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Computer Science, or a related discipline, and less than one year of relevant experience.
  • Experience with Python and protein design, and a background in cell biology or immunology.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of mammalian cell culture, molecular biology, and flow cytometry.

Responsibilities

  • Design de novo proteins against therapeutically relevant cancer and immune targets, including phosphatases and transcription factors, using computational pipelines such as RF Diffusion, Protein MPNN, and RF3.
  • Read and discuss literature about selected cancer and immune targets and their relevance to cancer immunotherapy.
  • Participate in weekly lab group meetings by asking questions and presenting work.
  • Document and maintain protocols for computational workflows, including RF Diffusion and MPNN, for future design work by other lab members.

Benefits

  • The posting refers applicants to the UW staff benefits website for information about benefits.
  • Opportunities for professional growth.
  • A diverse and intellectually exciting work environment.
