About The Position

KLA’s Ann Arbor physics modeling group is seeking a research scientist with a strong background in computational physics, such as plasma modeling, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and mechanical vibrations modeling. The role collaborates with R&D and Engineering teams to understand design needs and define modeling requirements, contributing to the design of next-generation inspection and metrology hardware. Experience with rarefied gas flow modeling is a plus. The position uses CFD and thermal modeling to guide tool development, applies simulations based on multiple physical models, and builds correlations with experimental data. It also involves preparing modeling plans, schedules, and summary reports; maintaining alignment with collaborators and team members; and coordinating and performing root cause analysis. The role is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Requirements

  • A degree or equivalent experience in Applied Physics or Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience using modeling to solve sophisticated engineering problems.
  • A responsible working demeanor and ability to be a good teammate.
  • Ability to work with multifunctional internal teams, division management, and external customers, both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to break down problems for planning and execution.
  • Minimum qualifications: a master's degree with 0 years of related work experience, or a bachelor's degree with 2 years of related work experience.
