About The Position

The University of Wyoming is seeking a Research Scientist, Assistant (Economist) and Associate Director for the Center for Business and Economic Analysis (CBEA). This role involves working with the Director of the CBEA to manage and execute projects for stakeholders, supporting the economic growth and diversification of Wyoming's economy through applied economic and business analytics. The CBEA aims to be a trusted resource for information about Wyoming's economy, empower economic growth, serve as a bridge between the university and the state community, and be recognized nationally. The Associate Director will manage projects, execute projects with the Director, and communicate with local economic development groups. Responsibilities include continuing development and marketing of the Center, assisting government agencies and firms with analysis of local, state, and national business and economic conditions, interacting with media regarding economic conditions and policies, and executing economic impact projects and other specialized projects. Occasional travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in Economics or related field.
  • Explicit knowledge of standard econometric software, such as R, Python, and Stata.
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the Driving for University Business SAP.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of and experience with software for economic impact analyses, such as IMPLAN or REMI.
  • PhD in Economics or related field.
  • Knowledge of Wyoming’s economy and the energy industry.
  • Excellent applied research skills.
  • A documented ability to effectively communicate verbally and orally to diverse audiences about complex topics involving data.
  • Prior experience working cooperatively with government agencies and private industry.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects for the CBEA.
  • Work with the Director to execute projects.
  • Communicate regularly with local economic development groups.
  • Continue development and marketing of the Center.
  • Assist government agencies and firms with analysis of local, state, and national business and economic conditions.
  • Interact with local, state, and national media with respect to economic conditions and policies in the region.
  • Execute economic impact projects and other specialized projects.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
