About The Position

This is an Administrative Professional part-time position at the Colorado State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (CSUVDL) in Fort Collins, Colorado. This is an in-person position. This position will be part-time at 20 hours per week. The mission of the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories (VDL) is to provide timely, accurate and pertinent animal disease diagnostic services and educational outreach to veterinarians, animal industries and animal interests. The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory will strive to meet the goals the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and the University through research to develop new approaches to disease identification, investigation, prevention and through education of professional veterinary medical, graduate, and post-doctoral students.

Requirements

  • A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working in veterinary medicine.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in project management.
  • Experience working on grant-funded research projects.
  • Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires).
  • Valid Driver’s License - Must possess or obtain a valid driver’s license by the employment start date and maintain such in good standing for duration of active employment.
  • Required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare.
  • Must safely lift and carry items that weigh up to 50lbs.
  • May be required to be rabies vaccinated upon hire and maintain protective titers (blood drawn on a schedule determined by CSU Occupational Health to evaluate status).

Responsibilities

  • Identify, pursue and manage external funding opportunities to support the CSU VDL, including but not limited to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) and National Animal Disease Preparedness and Response (NADPRP) Farm Bill funding opportunities.
  • Manage research project pre-award and post-award phases, including proposal development and submission, organizing and communicating project activities, ensuring delivery of project outcomes and appropriately managing finances.
  • Independently troubleshoot, problem solve and manage issues related to priority, project contributors, including conflict resolution and other issues impacting success if necessary.
  • Manage operational projects for the VDL, including developing goals and deliverables, organizing personnel and inputs, and building consensus among stakeholders.
  • Develop interpersonal relationships with internal and external stakeholders while managing projects.
  • Organize project plans and schedules and coordinate information distribution relative to the projects.
  • Provide strong data management, objective assessment, critical thinking and communications skills to all projects.
