About The Position

The Human Exploitation and Resilience Program (HERP) at the New York University Marron Institute of Urban Management invites applications for a Research Scholar, working with Clinical Associate Professor Meredith Dank. HERP research primarily focuses on both US-based and international forced labor and human trafficking, in addition to other types of gender based violence. The program works with many government and nongovernment programmatic partners, including grassroots organizations to translate research into action by delivering evidence-based interventions, informing policy and amplifying survivor-centered approaches. The Research Scholar will work on several projects in the HERP portfolio. The scope of the research will include assisting with currently funded research projects through the Human Exploitation and Resilience program, specifically quantitative and monitoring and evaluation analyses on a wide range of studies.

Requirements

• Proficiency in either R or Python for quantitative analysis.
• Previous academic and grant writing experience.
• Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Experience with end-to-end data management systems.
• Experience working with a variety of stakeholders, including funders, government agencies, NGOs, researchers, practitioners, etc.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Minimum of a master’s degree in criminal justice, public health, sociology, social work, international development or an equivalent social science.

Responsibilities

• Research management (10%): Assist with project design, grant proposal tasks, data collection tools, and data monitoring procedures. Adapt data evaluation and monitoring systems to local needs. Conduct routine data quality checks. Organize endline report writing, conduct final quantitative analyses, and contribute to final qualitative analyses.
• Quantitative data analysis (30%): Conduct quantitative analyses, including data cleaning, missing data analysis, multilevel regression modeling, survival analyses, data visualization, and spatial modeling.
• Monitoring, evaluation, and data systems management (30%): Conduct ongoing data monitoring and analyses to assess data quality and identify gaps. Develop instruments to collect data. Implement measures to improve data quality and strengthen data collection processes. Design, adapt, and maintain digital data collection tools and back-end architecture for end-to-end M&E systems. Aggregate and synthesize data for programmatic reporting, including preparing datasets and summaries for donor reporting and internal learning.
• Grant proposal writing (10%): Contribute to grant proposal writing for government and foundation funders, including project design, literature reviews, analytic procedures, and organizing writing tasks.
• Academic manuscript writing (10%): Contribute to academic manuscripts for journal publication, including conducting analyses, writing papers, and reviewing papers.
• Dissemination of project findings to a variety of audiences (10%): Develop deliverables with project results for various audiences, including infographics, briefs, and manuscripts.
