About The Position

The Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto Scarborough is seeking a Research Project Coordinator to join a vibrant and agile team. This role will be crucial in coordinating activities and operations for the Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Sustainability Transitions. The research program partners with marginalized communities in Toronto and globally to develop community-engaged and context-relevant approaches to just and equitable sustainability transitions. The Research Project Coordinator will support research goals, facilitate grant applications, and coordinate team engagement and knowledge co-production activities across multiple projects and contexts. This role contributes to advancing the overall goals and initiatives of the CERC, including knowledge co-production, peer learning, and education.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in a related field (i.e., urban planning or sociology) or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum three (3) years of related work experience in a research co-production environment, including collaboration across academic, community, and policy stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in interdisciplinary research on sustainability transitions, climate change, or energy systems, with a focus on equity, justice, and community-engaged methodologies
  • Demonstrated research project coordination experience facilitating knowledge coproduction activities and demonstrated ability to navigate and develop relationships with partners across multiple organizations
  • Experience coordinating community-guided research projects and implementing qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative data collection, interpretation, and analysis
  • Experience completing Research Ethics Board (REB) applications and editing content for grant applications.
  • Demonstrated experience fostering positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including community and city partners
  • Experience working with people from equity-deserving populations or people with disabilities is essential
  • Demonstrated experience with literature reviews and syntheses
  • Proficient academic writing skills (e.g. protocol development, grant writing, manuscript development, poster, and abstract development)
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills (oral and written) with an ability to multi-task and prioritize competing demands
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong research and analytical skills required
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and proven ability to meet deadlines with a strong commitment to accuracy and attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • A Ph.D. in a related field (i.e., urban planning or sociology) would be considered an asset
  • Proficiency with qualitative software and coding (e.g., MAXQDA)
  • Proficiency in Spanish language
  • Experience with fieldwork in remote places

Responsibilities

  • Fostering positive relationships with project partners
  • Scheduling day-to-day project activities
  • Drafting summaries of research project results
  • Drafting documents for knowledge translation purposes
  • Synthesizing technical, qualitative and contextual research data
  • Determining qualitative and/or quantitative research methods according to research objectives
  • Supporting with writing and editing content for grant applications and verifying the accuracy and completeness of manuscripts
  • Determining logistical details for field trips, including travel, accommodation and stay
