Under the direction and guidance of a principal investigator mentor, the Research Postdoctoral Fellow assumes responsibility for a specific ongoing research project. The role provides opportunities to extend and refine skills for professional and career development and broaden scientific knowledge by acquiring new research capabilities. The fellow is expected to conduct independent scholarly research and contribute directly to the project and the research group’s overall goals. The fellow participates in project planning, data recording and interpretation or evaluation, and communication of results. The position also develops technical, laboratory management, and manuscript and grant writing skills, and participates in seminars, lectures, poster sessions, and presentations at national meetings. The fellow may supervise junior laboratory members, develop research methods and protocols, and assist with other research projects. The De Raedt Lab, based at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania, develops therapies—including cellular and immunotherapies—for children with brain tumors by studying tumor biology and developing relevant mouse models. Research areas include NF1-associated gliomas and sporadic pediatric high-grade gliomas, genetic drivers of NF1 high-grade glioma, MHCII antigen presentation, preclinical tumoroid and organoid modeling, CAR-T therapies for NF1-associated malignancies, and cellular delivery vectors for therapeutic proteins.
