The Research Intern will work closely with an experienced research mentor in a Cancer Research Center for Health Equity, gaining hands-on experience in cancer epidemiology and cancer survivorship research. The research team studies long-term effects of cancer treatment, including cardiovascular disease, treatment-related cardiotoxicity, and subsequent cancers, and explores risk stratification, long-term cardiovascular surveillance, and disparities in health outcomes among cancer survivors. This structured educational internship provides progressively independent research experience. The intern will receive orientation to the department and academic research processes, then work with the mentor to establish an individualized timeline, mentoring plan, and learning goals. The internship is unpaid, with an anticipated start date of January 4, 2027, and end date of March 19, 2027. Renewal eligibility will be reviewed case by case. The internship must end if the intern returns to an out-of-state school, and remote internships are not permitted. A 12-month commitment to research-related activities is preferred. The internship is hybrid and requires at least 8 hours per week on-site, with weekly in-person mentoring meetings. On-site work may include literature reviews, statistical programming, epidemiologic analyses, research collaboration, and presentation development. Remote work may include literature reviews, scientific writing, and limited data analysis. The experience is expected to culminate in a scientific manuscript and/or research poster.
