About The Position

The Research Intern will work closely with an experienced research mentor at Cedars-Sinai’s Cancer Research Center for Health Equity, gaining practical exposure to cancer epidemiology and survivorship research. The team studies long-term effects of cancer treatment, including cardiovascular disease, treatment-related cardiotoxicity, and subsequent cancers, as well as risk stratification, long-term cardiovascular surveillance, and disparities in health outcomes among cancer survivors. This structured educational experience includes individualized mentorship and exposure to multiple stages of research. The intern will conduct targeted literature reviews, develop skills in statistical programming and foundational epidemiologic analyses, strengthen scientific writing and presentation skills, and contribute to a culminating research project such as a scientific manuscript and/or poster. The experience is intended for students exploring graduate school, medical school, or future careers in epidemiology, public health, and health-related research. The internship is unpaid, with an anticipated start date of January 4, 2027, and end date of March 19, 2027. Renewal eligibility will be reviewed case by case. Remote internships are not permitted, and the internship must end if the intern returns to an out-of-state school. A 12-month commitment to research-related activities is preferred. The internship is hybrid and requires at least 8 hours per week on-site. Weekly mentoring meetings are conducted in person. On-site work may include literature reviews, statistical programming, epidemiologic analyses, research collaboration, and presentation development; remote work may include literature reviews, scientific writing, and limited data analysis. The intern will receive department and research-process orientation during the first two weeks, establish a timeline and learning goals with the mentor, and meet with the mentor weekly. Progress will be assessed periodically based on internship goals, growth in research knowledge and skills, and increasing independence.
