About The Position

This position is temporary and limited to 900 hours. The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) is a major urban public research university, recognized for its diverse student body and comprehensive academic programs. This role will focus on research involving first-principles calculations and machine-learning assisted molecular dynamics for advanced battery development. The assistant will collaborate with the research team and contribute to journal publications.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years (36 months) of a combination of college coursework in engineering, computer science, physical science, or a closely related field, OR work experience in laboratory techniques, including coordinating the engineering, installation, testing, and operational phases of specialized research projects. The conversion is as follows: 30 semester hours = 1 year, Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) = 18 months, 90 semester hours = 2 years, Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) = 3 years.

Responsibilities

  • Develop atomistic computational models for battery materials.
  • Analyze and interpret simulation and experimental data.
  • Integrate AI tools and workflows to enhance modeling and accelerate learning.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary experimental and theoretical research teams.
  • Prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
  • Complete other research tasks assigned by the supervisor.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
