About The Position

Join the Institute of Railway Technology (IRT), a globally recognised leader in railway research, and contribute to the development of innovative wheel–rail interface solutions for the industry. As a Research Engineer, you will support the Wheel-Rail Interface Team in delivering high-quality research and development projects, ensuring outcomes are achieved within scope, budget, and timelines. Working under the guidance of the Deputy Team Leader, you will apply engineering principles to develop bespoke design solutions that address real-world challenges, aligned with industry standards and best practice. The role involves hands-on involvement in the setup, testing, and evaluation of wheel and rail profile solutions, lubrication performance, and virtual vehicle modelling. You will also contribute to broader track-related research initiatives across the team. A key component of this position is stakeholder engagement. You will work closely with workshop staff, clients, and industry partners, requiring a high level of professionalism, strong organisational capability, and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to apply technical expertise in a collaborative, industry-focused research environment.
