About The Position

The cord blood collector is responsible for identifying potential cord blood donors prior to delivery; educating, interviewing, and consenting potential donors; collecting or assisting with the in-utero cord blood collection at delivery; conducting ex-utero cord blood collection; and preparing collected cord blood and maternal blood samples with associated documentation for shipping. Performs other duties assigned by Research Department management according to policies and procedures and the missions of Woman's Hospital and Woman's Health Research Institute. Duties include the support of coordination of clinical trial studies, data management, participant consenting, and collaboration with other coordinators, nurses, dietitians, Principal Investigators and ancillary. Works closely with all Research Department personnel, physician researchers, PhD, pathology laboratory personnel, and other hospital employees. Also has contact with research participants (women prior to delivery and women newly post-partum).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Access) skills required.
  • Research and hospital experience preferred.
  • One year of laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Identify eligible potential cord blood donors and obtain authorizations from physician(s) to contact potential donors.
  • Promote, educate, and recruit potential donors through explanation of the cord blood donation program.
  • Conduct informed consent of potential cord blood donors for the collection, testing, and use of cord blood.
  • Interview donors to obtain answers to a standard questionnaire designed to elicit behavioral risk factors, medical, and travel history information of the mother and the infant’s immediate family.
  • Orders tests / venipuncture in EPIC.
  • Responsible for the collection of cord blood and maternal blood samples using aseptic technique.
  • Perform procedures and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with current Good Laboratory Practice, current Good Manufacturing Practice, and current Good Tissue Practice regulations and applicable accreditation agency standards, including but not limited to FACT-NetCord, CAP, and CLIA.
