About The Position

Duke University School of Medicine has an opening for a Cord Blood Coordinator in their Carolinas Cord Blood Bank (CCBB) at Atrium Health in Charlotte, N.C. This is an on-site position located at Atrium Health – CMC Main 1000 Blythe Boulevard Charlotte, NC 28203. The work schedule is Monday – Friday 6:30 am – 3:00 pm. The Marcus Center for Cellular Cures oversees the collection of umbilical cord blood units and related procedural paperwork and documents for the Carolinas Cord Blood Bank (CCBB). This role involves the promotion of public cord blood banking, education of the mother/donor, data collection, and other necessary operational requirements for the successful collection of umbilical cord blood units for public banking and directed donation. The coordinator will be the point of contact for troubleshooting issues related to cord blood donation and collection, disseminate best practices, and act as a liaison with hosting hospital personnel. The role also involves identifying areas for efficiency gains and collaboratively developing and implementing process improvements at the sites.

Requirements

  • Completion of an Associate's degree
  • Minimum of two years of relevant research experience. A Bachelor's degree may substitute for 2 years required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the collection of umbilical cord blood units and related procedural paperwork and documents for the Carolinas Cord Blood Bank (CCBB).
  • Be an ambassador for the CCBB program.
  • Establish good working relationships with hospital personnel involved in the cord blood collection process.
  • Develop and enhance all aspects of CCBB with the goal of promoting public cord blood banking.
  • Make presentations to hospital staff and community groups to increase awareness of CCBB.
  • Ensure collections are performed in accordance to SOPs and FDA requirements and that all associated documentation is completed in accordance to SOPs and regulations.
  • Ensure and maintain complete confidentiality with regard to identity of the maternal/infant donor pair, as well as results of any tests and procedures, in accordance with CCBB standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure that maternal blood samples are collected according to standard operating procedures. If samples are missed or are otherwise unusable, facilitate the collection of new samples.
  • Be point of contact for trouble shooting issues related to cord blood donation and collection.
  • Disseminate best practices and act as liaison with hosting hospital personnel.
  • Identify areas for efficiency gains and collaboratively develop and implement process improvements.
  • Perform final reviews on all paperwork leaving the collection site, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all recorded information before it is delivered to the CCBB.
  • Ensure supplies are readily available at the site for site personnel to collect the umbilical cord according to collection procedures.
  • Responsible for supervision and performance management of Cord Blood Collectors at the site.
  • May be required to perform work outside of regular business hours, including weekends and evenings.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
