About The Position

Carnegie Mellon University's Mellon College of Science (MCS) is seeking a Research Associate for the Biological Sciences department. This role will focus on developing software packages for metadata curation and hypothesis testing across publicly available genomes. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 1-3 years of research experience required.
  • Experience in bioinformatics, programming, python Nextflow and R required.
  • Strong communication, analytical, problem-solving, and reasoning skills.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • A combination of education and proven experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and publish software package for comparative genomics analyses.
  • Assist laboratory members with bioinformatic analyses.
  • Maintain organized data and scripts on laboratory’s server and GitHub.
  • Identifies problems and obstacles to progress; develops strategies to solve problems.
  • Performs research experiments following experimental protocol and procedures.
  • Researches and documents information by compiling and maintaining accurate and detailed records.
  • Summarizes statistical information for analysis, examination or presentation; writes technical reports.
  • May build and validate quantitative models.
  • Other duties as assigned.
