About The Position

The W.M. Keck Center for Cellular Imaging (KCCI), Department of Biology at the University of Virginia, invites applications for a post-doctoral Research Associate (Microscopy) position. The incumbent will be developing new optical microscopy and spectroscopy techniques to investigate cellular metabolism in live cells and animals. The Research Associate will be responsible for administering and training center users on various microscopy systems including wide-field, TIRF, confocal, multiphoton, two-photon in vivo imaging, FLIM, and FRET microscopy. The incumbent is expected to have some experience in computer administration, FLIM, optical instrumentation development, and software code writing. The Research Associate should have an interest/ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with multidisciplinary investigators involved in the KCCI. The Research Associate should have experience in preparing research articles in cellular metabolism studies to publish in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. The Keck Center for Cellular Imaging (KCCI) at UVA is an internationally known center in advanced microscopy imaging. KCCI is highly interactive with outstanding investigators across grounds including from the School of Engineering, Arts & Sciences and School of Medicine; provides excellent training and teaching for graduate and undergraduate students on various microscopy techniques. Historical strengths of KCCI are the development of advanced FRET and FLIM imaging systems, techniques, and data analysis which are used to train national and international scientists through annual hands-on training workshops on FRET, FLIM, and metabolic imaging microscopy.

Requirements

A Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Biophotonics, Engineering or a related discipline is required by the start date.
Effective oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Proficiency in design and development of new optical instrumentation.
Proficiency in FLIM.
Proficiency in software development, especially with Java for ImageJ/Fiji, Python, LabVIEW, and MATLAB.
Experience in various fluorescence microscopy-imaging systems.
Some experience in computer administration.
Some experience in optical instrumentation development.
Some experience in software code writing.
Interest/ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with multidisciplinary investigators.
