Research Associate II, Integrated Therapeutic Engineering and Design

Repertoire Immune Medicines•Watertown, MA
•$75,000 - $90,000

About The Position

Repertoire Immune Medicines is seeking a motivated Research Associate II to join its Integrated Therapeutic Engineering and Design (ITED) team and help discover and develop innovative protein therapeutics. This hands-on role applies yeast display-based protein engineering to therapeutic discovery. The Research Associate will perform yeast display techniques, including yeast culture and induction, transformation with DNA-based libraries, and phenotypic selection using fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) or magnetic-activated cell sorting (MACS). The role requires advanced molecular biology skills, including PCR, primer design, golden gate cloning, and DNA preparation for sequencing, along with hands-on experience using protein display technologies. The Research Associate will own experimental design, implementation, and data analysis, and communicate results effectively and promptly to their supervisor and the broader team. Success depends on execution, experimental rigor, scientific curiosity, strong communication, and collaboration across functions.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Biochemistry, Biology, Bioengineering, Immunology, or a similar field.
  • At least 2 years of academic or biotech/pharmaceutical laboratory experience.
  • Experience with protein display technologies is required.
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and data-analysis skills.
  • Ability and desire to quickly learn new laboratory techniques and understand their significance to program goals.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Yeast display experience is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of complex molecular biology techniques, including PCR, primer design, DNA purification, DNA library design and construction using methods such as golden gate cloning, Gibson assembly, or SOE, and maintenance and culture of yeast and E. coli.
  • Knowledge of oncology or immunology.
  • Experience with FlowJo, SnapGene, and JMP.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute experiments as a key contributor to the ITED team under the supervision of the manager and scientific project leads.
  • Apply recombinant protein display systems, such as yeast display, to protein engineering applications.
  • Design and construct DNA libraries using molecular biology techniques, including DNA isolation and purification, PCR, and transformation of yeast and/or E. coli.
  • Enrich displayed libraries for phenotypes of interest using FACS and MACS, and analyze target-binding profiles.
  • Maintain good laboratory practices, including accurate electronic laboratory notebook documentation, instrument and reagent validation, and compliance with laboratory safety policies.
  • Present data and analysis at cross-disciplinary team meetings and build working relationships that move projects forward.
  • Own experimental design, implementation, and data analysis, and share results effectively and in a timely manner.
