About The Position

Working under direct supervision, the Research Associate I performs a variety of procedures to support the objectives of the laboratory research projects in Neuroimaging and Neuropathology. Assists in general laboratory activities, including 3D printing, postmortem brain imaging, and brain histopathology. Keeps accurate and detailed records of experimental protocols and research databases while ensuring compliance with established research procedures and regulations. Assists in the operation of specialized equipment for 3D-printing, MR imaging and histological experiments. Observes safety standards and procedures. The Research Assistant I will be able to perform routine postmortem brain tissue processing and brain tissue imaging. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

  • Dr. Guzman is the Scientific Director of the Neuropathology Core Laboratory and a board-certified neuropathologist and physician-scientist specializing in neurodegenerative disease, epilepsy, neuro-oncology, and translational neuroscience.
  • The research of Dr. Diaz focuses on developing early markers of disease and disease progression in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and understanding the mechanisms of upper motor neuron dysfunction in ALS, variants, and other motor neuron disorders.
  • Dr. Sati is a neuroimaging scientist whose research focuses on the discovery, development, and validation of innovative imaging biomarkers for advancing precision medicine in Neurology.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of laboratory tasks and procedures related to Neuroimaging and Neuropathology.
  • May assist with animal husbandry.
  • Maintains lab equipment and related records.
  • Transports, processes and logs samples.
  • Maintains computer database with relevant clinical information.
  • Performs lab maintenance duties, including glassware cleaning and sterilization.
  • Assists new students and fellows at the laboratory.
  • Performs tissue processing and immunostaining of postmortem brain samples
  • Performs image processing, segmentation and analysis of neuroimaging dataset.
  • Performs 3D image modeling, 3D printing of brain holders and brain slicers
  • Maintains project records of histology and imaging dataset, pipelines and results.
