About The Position

Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking a Research Assistant to join their team in the FORGE Lab. This role involves conducting research on machine learning methods for predicting the influence of geometry-based boundary conditions on physics behavior, with applications in additive manufacturing. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree.
0-1 years of experience
Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks, foundational machine learning knowledge.

Master’s degree preferred.
A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Responsibilities

Conduct research under PI supervision
Contribute to manuscripts and lab activities
Present results at lab meetings
Develop neural network models for geometry representation (point clouds, meshes, or neural fields) applied to physical surrogate modeling.
Generate and curate training data from numerical simulations of manufacturing processes.
Document methods and results for publications and technical reports.
