About The Position

Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Mechanical Engineering is searching for a Research Assistant to join their team in the FORGE Lab. This role involves conducting research on machine learning methods for predicting the influence of geometry-based boundary conditions on physics behavior, with applications in additive manufacturing. The Research Assistant will help develop and evaluate geometry-aware surrogate models and contribute to related publications. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 0-1 years of experience
  • Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks, foundational machine learning knowledge.
  • Successful background check

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research under PI supervision
  • Contribute to manuscripts and lab activities
  • Present results at lab meetings
  • Develop neural network models for geometry representation (point clouds, meshes, or neural fields) applied to physical surrogate modeling.
  • Generate and curate training data from numerical simulations of manufacturing processes.
  • Document methods and results for publications and technical reports.
