About The Position

Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking a Research Assistant to join their team in the FORGE Lab. This role involves conducting research on reinforcement learning methods for controlling physical processes, with applications in additive manufacturing. The successful candidate will develop and evaluate RL agents in simulated environments and contribute to related publications. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 0-1 years of experience
  • Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks
  • Foundational machine learning knowledge
  • Python proficiency
  • Successful background check

  • Master's degree preferred
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research under PI supervision
  • Contribute to manuscripts and lab activities
  • Present results at lab meetings

  • Build and maintain simulation environments and reward formulations for RL experiments
  • Document methods and results for publications and technical reports
