About The Position

Reporting to the Manager of the Centre for Immigrant Research, the Research Assistant is responsible for assisting the team in developing and delivering new and innovative programming and research interventions to better inform settlement approaches used at TIES and across the wider immigrant-serving community. This position description reflects the general duties of the role but is not intended to be a detailed description of all duties. The Research Assistant may be asked to perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in college or university or has recently completed graduate research degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Comfortable with using technology, e.g. MS Office, Internet, Canva
  • Sensitivity and ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation
  • Not be an international student, as the program is intended to support youth entering the Canadian labour market

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with non-profit organizations is an asset
  • Knowledge of additional languages other than English is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the collection of data using surveys, interview tools and materials created by researchers.
  • Supports program delivery and research interventions.
  • Compile data and transcribe interviews.
  • Conduct and compile online literature scans and reading lists for other researchers.
  • Assist with manuscript writing.
  • Maintain all files, both physical and electronic, and required databases for projects.
  • Assist team members in communicating with research sites, as needed.
  • Assist the project leads in completing and submitting all required project deliverables on time.
  • Promotes the program by using various channels, social media and advertising sites, as well as collaborating with community and research partners.
  • Maintain research library resources.
  • Ability to work independently and as a positive member of a team.
  • Assist the team in conducting annual inventory
