About The Position

The Dao Lab in the Department of Integrative Biology seeks undergraduate research assistants/interns to support projects developing machine learning and deep learning methods for analyzing drone and satellite remote sensing data in agricultural and environmental applications. Work includes lab and field spectral measurements, assisting with drone flights, processing remote sensing imagery and spectra, developing machine learning and deep learning models, conducting statistical analyses, and writing reports. Students work independently and under the supervision of Prof. Phuong Dao, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers. Training is provided in drone flight assistance, lab and field sampling protocols, and the use of advanced sensors and equipment. The position is based at UT Austin and field sites, with the possibility of some remote work. Applicants are required to work at least 10–15 hours per week, with a schedule based on their availability. The position is expected to continue through December 31, 2026, with possible extension to Spring 2027 and beyond.
