About The Position

The Research Assistant will assist with day-to-day research, writing, engagement, and knowledge mobilization tasks at the Knowledge Institute and will be involved in evolving priority projects. This includes supporting Knowledge Institute services related to research and knowledge mobilization and the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based practices. The Research Assistant will have research, writing, and project management experience and some experience in group facilitation.

Requirements

  • College Diploma or University Degree in psychology or a related field (Essential)
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a Research Assistant (Essential)
  • Minimum 1-3 years of relevant research experience within the child and youth community mental health, substance use health and addictions sector, or related sectors (Essential)
  • Demonstrated understanding of research design, methods, and procedures, and experience supporting a research project through multiple phases (Essential)
  • Data management experience (Essential)
  • Experience with statistical software and qualitative data analysis software (Essential)
  • Experience contributing to project reports, publications, and/or clear language reports and summaries (Essential)
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills (Essential)
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating, hosting consultations or interviews, and/or engaging partners (Essential)
  • Strong skills in both academic and clear language writing (Essential)
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office) (Essential)
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) (Essential)
  • Demonstrated collegiality, professionalism, interpersonal and collaboration skills (Essential)
  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to work independently (Essential)

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the day-to-day tasks associated with research and knowledge mobilization that will be carried out at the Knowledge Institute; actively participate in priority research and evaluation projects for the Knowledge Institute as assigned
  • Perform literature searches, summarize articles, and synthesize findings
  • Create, update, and verify reference lists and annotated bibliographies
  • Create and maintain research and project files
  • Prepare reports to summarize research and review findings
  • Contribute to the writing of academic and plain language reports and resources
  • Consult with internal research/evaluation specialists to verify and further identify practices based on best evidence
  • Contribute to the development of knowledge products (e.g., quality standards, evidence reviews, toolkits, infographics)
  • Support the design, distribution, and analysis of surveys
  • Assist in database design for both quantitative and qualitative data, and maintain databases
  • Populate the Knowledge Institute’s project-specific databases with research findings and prepare results for sharing with internal colleagues and external working groups
  • Perform basic statistics and qualitative analysis and prepare summaries of results
  • Assist in the preparation of posters and public presentations
  • Support the planning, design, and facilitation of project-specific engagements with youth and family advisories, groups, and tables
  • Support facilitation of meetings with external partners including presentation and small group facilitation
  • Provide support to child and youth mental health, substance use health and addictions partners across the province to best address their information needs
  • Attend all team meetings and those invited to by supervisor
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Perform work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all CHEO corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety
