About The Position

The Research Coordinator plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates key Knowledge Institute projects and initiatives. They work with key informants, interest holders, and provincial partners and draw on the latest research evidence to develop quality standards, resources, products, strategies and processes that will inform practice and policy across Ontario’s community-based child and youth mental health, substance use health and addictions sector. The incumbent will have demonstrated experience in applied research coordination, project management, and evaluation; excellent communication skills (both verbal and written); excellent presentation and networking skills; and a demonstrated ability to develop strong partnerships with researchers, agency leaders, service providers, young people and family members to ensure the successful execution of community-driven projects and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in psychology, social work, sociology or a related field (Essential)
  • Minimum 5+ years of research/implementation/evaluation experience within the child and youth community mental health, substance use health and addictions sector, or related sectors (Essential)
  • Demonstrated experience in knowledge mobilization within the child and youth community mental health, substance use health and addictions sector or related sectors (Essential)
  • Extensive demonstrated experience with designing research/evaluation projects, using both qualitative and quantitative data collection approaches, analyses, and associated tools (e.g., REDCap, Excel, Survey Monkey, SPSS, JASP, NVivo) (Essential)
  • Familiarity with Tri-council ethical guidelines and processes (Essential)
  • Extensive demonstrated experience writing research/project reports, clear language reports and summaries, and with publication (Essential)
  • Superior skills in both academic and clear language writing (Essential)
  • Demonstrated skills in project management and organization (Essential)
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and engage in team-based problem-solving (Essential)

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates all aspects of Knowledge Institute-led research, knowledge mobilization, standardization, evaluation, and/or implementation projects. Duties include initial project planning, managing project logistics, building the appropriate team, consulting and engaging with partners, building strategic engagement plans, implementing the project plan, planning and overseeing research/evaluation activities (e.g., data collection, analysis, report writing and project evaluation). Project examples include quality standards, evidence briefs, surveys, infographics, toolkits, quality indicators, evaluation projects; as well as the creation of products, presentations, and resources to meet partners’ knowledge needs.
  • Collaborates with research/knowledge mobilization/standardization/evaluation/implementation project team members to develop/refine project goals, methods, and research/evaluation questions; create tools for data collection and storage; oversee data collection and cleaning; and analyze results and produce project reports and presentations.
  • Ensures ongoing communication and engagement with project partners and staff, including youth and family advisory councils.
  • With guidance and support from a senior, PhD trained staff/leadership team member, conducts literature reviews and environmental scans on complex child and youth mental health, substance use health and addictions topics.
  • Produces knowledge products to meet information needs of Ontario’s child and youth mental health, substance use health and addictions sector (e.g., quality standards, evidence briefs, program scans, landscape analyses, infographics, and other knowledge and research-related reports).
  • Coordinates meetings that bring together advisory councils, steering committees, and/or working groups including (but not limited to) young people and family members, priority partners, researchers and content experts, agency leaders, service providers, and other project partners to co-design, collaborate, or provide advice and guidance on projects.
  • Liaises and collaborates with provincial partners, content area experts, young people and families to develop and refine the Knowledge Institute’s quality standards, tools, resources and products associated with identified projects.
  • Plans, designs, and facilitates project-specific engagements with youth and family advisories, groups, and tables.
  • Plans and facilitates meetings with external partners including presentations and large and small group facilitation.
  • Designs and carries out project-specific engagement and knowledge mobilization strategies, and works closely with colleagues in communications, engagement, and implementation to ensure alignment of goals and activities.
  • With the support of expert colleagues and partners, leverages knowledge of research methods, evaluation, quality improvement, or measurement to design quality indicators and measurement supports for quality standards.
  • Assists in training on research and writing for more early career staff (including young people and research assistants).
  • Creates and maintains project files and relevant databases (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, Excel) for workload, tracking and performance measurement purposes.
  • Collaborates with reporting manager/director to create project and evaluation plans, and to maintain relevant project budgets.
  • Represents the Knowledge Institute on research teams, knowledge mobilization committees, and at conferences.
  • Prepares publications, posters, and presentations to support information requests and for external conferences.
  • Contributes to building the capacity of child and youth mental health, substance use health and addictions agency staff across the province to implement and evaluate evidence-informed service delivery.
