About The Position

The University of Florida’s Entomology and Nematology Department seeks a Research Assistant Scientist for a 12-month, non-tenure-track faculty appointment that is 100% research with the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station. The scientist will work closely with project investigators on insect science research and related bioinformatics analyses, contributing to current extramural awards and developing a portfolio of independent and collaborative research with department investigators and affiliated faculty and staff. The work may combine laboratory benchwork with streamlined bioinformatic operations to retrieve biologically relevant information from complex datasets, including insect transcriptomics, proteomics, predicted protein structures, and phage display library screens. The position has two primary responsibilities: establishing and advancing an extramurally funded research portfolio in collaboration with departmental faculty, staff, and trainees; and supporting existing extramurally funded grants and related publications. The appointment is time-limited, with initial funding for one year. Continued employment is possible if extramural funding is secured individually or through collaborative research.
