Research Assistant Scientist – Entomology

University of Florida•Gainesville, FL

About The Position

The University of Florida seeks a Research Assistant Scientist in its Entomology and Nematology Department. This is a 12-month, non-tenure-track faculty appointment that is 100% research with the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station. The scientist will work closely with project investigators on insect science research and related bioinformatics analyses, potentially combining benchwork with streamlined bioinformatic operations to retrieve biologically relevant information from complex datasets, including insect transcriptomics, proteomics, predicted protein structures, and phage display library screens. The position has two primary responsibilities: developing and advancing an independent portfolio of extramurally funded research in collaboration with departmental faculty, staff, and trainees; and supporting existing extramurally funded grants and related publications. The appointee is expected to contribute integrally to current awards while building independent and collaborative research activity. The position is time-limited, with initial funding for a one-year appointment. Continued employment is possible if extramural funding is secured individually or through collaborative research. The Entomology and Nematology Department has faculty in Gainesville and at research and education centers around Florida.
