About The Position

The Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering invites applications for an appointment stream Research Assistant Professor position. The ideal candidate will have a PhD or equivalent degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, computer science, health informatics, or a closely related discipline. The University of Pittsburgh, located in Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood, is a top-ten institution for NIH funding and offers a vibrant environment for interdisciplinary research, enhanced by its affiliation with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). The Department of Bioengineering is a highly-ranked program with strong research and educational offerings, including undergraduate and graduate degrees. Numerous collaborative research opportunities are available through institutes such as the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine, Computational and Systems Biology, the Vascular Medicine Institute, the Brain Institute, Starzl Transplantation Institute, and the Organ Pathology and Therapeutics Institute. Additionally, the Center for Medical Innovation, the Coulter Translational Partnership II Program, and the Center for Commercial Applications of Healthcare Data provide avenues for biomedical innovation and translation.

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, computer science, health informatics, or closely related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the design, development, and evaluation of digital health technologies.
  • Experience with mobile health (mHealth) systems.
  • Experience with clinician- and patient-facing software applications.
  • Experience with wearable-integrated sensing platforms.
  • Experience with research data infrastructure.
  • More than two years of research experience.
  • Experience leading the development, deployment, and maintenance of research software systems that support interdisciplinary studies.

  • Design, development, and evaluation of digital health technologies.
  • Mobile health (mHealth) systems development.
  • Clinician- and patient-facing software applications development.
  • Wearable-integrated sensing platforms development.
  • Research data infrastructure development.
  • Leading the development, deployment, and maintenance of research software systems that support interdisciplinary studies.
  • Advancing research in digital health systems and translational biomedical technologies.
  • Integrating wearable and mobile technologies into clinical research workflows.
  • Human-centered design of healthcare software.
  • Collection, management, and analysis of health data from sensor-based and self-reported sources.
  • Contributing service to the department through leadership and technical oversight within the IDEA Lab.
  • Supporting interdisciplinary design, software development, and student project initiatives aligned with the department’s innovation and experiential learning goals.
  • Supporting the broader research, educational, and innovation missions of the department and the Swanson School of Engineering.
