About The Position

The Wyss Institute at Harvard University is seeking a Research Assistant III to help develop novel technologies for biomarker discovery and diagnostics. The role works with a multidisciplinary team on technologies for investigating pathological states from human biofluids and leads development of methods intended for use across different diseases. The position offers experimental and computational training as well as opportunities for scientific independence; previous research assistants have contributed to publications and presented at international conferences. The successful candidate will perform experimental research on methods for profiling nucleic acid and protein biomarkers from human biofluids, analyze high-throughput nucleic acid and protein data computationally, and collaborate with senior lab members on automation using liquid-handling instruments. Additional duties include training lab members, maintaining equipment and ordering supplies, presenting data at internal meetings with supervision, and contributing to teamwork and scientific rigor. This is a one-year term position with the possibility of renewal. All duties must be performed at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a biological science or related field.
  • Two or more years of experience in molecular biology or biochemistry.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques and constructing or optimizing NGS libraries or mass spectrometry-based proteomics.
  • Programming experience in Python and/or R and experience analyzing NGS or proteomics data.

Nice To Haves

  • Full-time, post-university research experience is strongly preferred; exceptional candidates with two or more years of undergraduate research experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with RNA biology and/or protein biochemistry.
  • Experience with, or interest in, automated liquid handling.
