About The Position

The MBL seeks a highly motivated individual to join the National Xenopus Resource (NXR) at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) as a research assistant and animal care technician. The successful candidate will contribute to projects within the NXR and will be involved with the generation and husbandry of Xenopus laevis and Xenopus tropicalis frogs.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in science, or equivalent experience
  • Independent, organized, and self-motivated individual
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Working weekends, occasional holidays, and on-call emergency response on a rotating basis

  • Animal handling is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Husbandry for Xenopus laevis and Xenopus tropicalis frogs
  • Maintenance of modular life support systems for holding frogs
  • Breeding of frogs
  • Microscopy
  • Data entry
  • General lab organization and maintenance
  • Daily observation of animals in the facility
  • Other lab work
  • Cryopreservation
  • Working with visiting scientists
