About The Position

The College of the Liberal Arts at Penn State is seeking a part-time – undergraduate research assistant for the Department of Sociology and Criminology, working within the Criminal Justice Research Center (CJRC). This position will assist with ongoing collaborative research between CJRC and the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. Tasks will involve assisting with data entry, literature searches, policy reviews, infographic design, and report writing. The role will be supervised by a CJRC post-doctoral researcher. Work will primarily be conducted online, with periodic zoom meetings.

Requirements

  • Must be a full-time Penn State undergraduate student
  • Available to work at least 8 hours per week
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Complete all required Penn State IRB Human Subjects Training
  • Perform qualitative data cleaning and coding
  • Become familiar with qualitative coding software (e.g., Atlas.ti)
  • Attend periodic meetings (online or in-person) to review progress
