About The Position

The Department of Finance and Treasury Board, Revenue Administration Division, is seeking a highly capable, analytical, and detail-oriented professional to serve as Research Analyst. The successful candidate will support evidence-based decision-making by conducting research, analyzing complex data, and preparing reports related to tax policy, revenue administration, and fiscal trends. This role contributes to New Brunswick’s financial accountability and long-term fiscal sustainability by providing timely, accurate, and well-reasoned analysis to internal and external stakeholders. The position requires strong analytical judgment, excellent written communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, service-driven environment. The Revenue Administration Division ensures fair, effective and efficient administration of tax and regulatory programs. It offers policy and information in respect to federal-provincial-territorial tax administration relations. It participates on a number of inter-jurisdictional committees on issues of common interest and works in close collaboration with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The division consists of the Research and Tax Administration Policy Branch, the Account Management Branch and the Audit and Investigation Services Branch.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Arts, Business Administration, or a related discipline, with a minimum of two (2) years of related work experience; OR A two-year post-secondary diploma in a related field, with a minimum of four (4) years of related work experience.
• Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook) is essential.

Responsibilities

• Acts as the branch’s primary point of contact for public inquiries, providing sound interpretation and advice on administered legislation and regulations, including but not limited to the Gasoline and Motive Fuel Tax Act, Harmonized Sales Tax Act, and Tobacco Tax Act, to Revenue and Taxation staff, other government departments, and the general public.
• Developing well-reasoned recommendations while balancing the unique circumstances of taxpayers with their right to objective, fair, and consistent treatment.
• Preparing, maintaining, and managing Tangible Personal Property Tax data and responding to related inquiries in accordance with applicable legislation and policies; providing support to other Revenue Administration staff as required.
• Reviewing and verifying daily Provincial Vehicle Tax transactions, including documentation received from service partners, to ensure compliance with legislation, policies, procedures, and established service agreements related to vehicle transaction processing.
• Applying established research methodologies to gather and analyze information to support audit referrals and other compliance-related activities.
• Maintaining the Branch’s records, files, and documentation in an organized and accurate manner.
• Contributing to the development of clear, accessible program-related materials such as applications, instructional guides, pamphlets, procedures, and manuals, and reviewing final content for accuracy and clarity.
• Performing other related duties as assigned.
