About The Position

This role supports Janus Henderson’s centralized US equity research platform, with primary responsibility for technology sector coverage across long/short equity portfolios. The analyst will conduct rigorous, bottom-up fundamental research to generate differentiated long and short investment ideas. This involves developing and maintaining detailed financial models, identifying attractive investment opportunities by evaluating company fundamentals, industry structure, technology cycles, management quality, capital allocation, and market expectations. The analyst will also build deep sector expertise through various engagement methods and communicate recommendations clearly to Portfolio Managers. Monitoring existing positions and sector developments, contributing to portfolio discussions, and supporting a collaborative research culture are also key aspects of the role.

Requirements

  • 7-10 years of equity investment research experience, with exposure to long/short or hedge fund-style investing
  • Four-year degree in finance, economics, accounting, engineering, computer science or a related discipline
  • Prior experience covering technology companies within a long/short equity, hedge fund, asset management or equity research environment
  • Strong understanding of short-selling mechanics, including borrow availability, short interest, stock loan dynamics, crowded positioning, and short squeeze risk
  • Experience analyzing software, semiconductors, internet, hardware, IT services or related technology subsectors
  • Demonstrated ability to generate high-conviction long and short investment ideas supported by differentiated research, clear catalysts and thoughtful risk/reward analysis
  • Strong understanding of technology business models, industry structures, competitive dynamics and key sector drivers
  • Advanced financial modelling skills, including the ability to forecast revenue, margins, earnings, cash flows, valuation scenarios and sensitivity analyses
  • Strong analytical judgement, intellectual curiosity and attention to detail, with the ability to distinguish signal from noise in complex and fast-moving markets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present investment views clearly, concisely and persuasively
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of research coverage and make informed recommendations while contributing effectively within a collaborative investment team
  • Strong interpersonal skills and credibility with company management teams, industry contacts and internal stakeholders
  • High level of integrity, sound judgement and commitment to delivering strong outcomes for clients
  • Established network of industry contacts and familiarity with alternative data, expert networks or channel-check research techniques

Responsibilities

  • Conduct rigorous, bottom-up fundamental research across the technology sector to generate differentiated long and short investment ideas
  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models to assess business quality, competitive positioning, earnings power, cash-flow generation, valuation, catalysts and downside risk
  • Identify attractive long and short investment opportunities by evaluating company fundamentals, industry structure, technology cycles, management quality, capital allocation and market expectations
  • Build deep sector expertise through company meetings, industry conferences, expert networks, channel checks and engagement with competitors, customers, suppliers and other relevant market participants
  • Communicate investment recommendations clearly and persuasively to Portfolio Managers through concise written research, investment notes, model outputs and verbal presentations
  • Monitor existing positions, sector developments and emerging risks, providing timely updates on thesis progression, catalyst, valuation changes and risk/reward dynamics
  • Contribute to portfolio discussions, risk reviews and broader investment team priorities, supporting a collaborative and performance-oriented research culture
