About The Position

Our Payee Services team plays a critical role in advancing this mission—helping individuals responsibly manage their income, strengthen financial literacy, and work toward greater autonomy in their daily lives. We are seeking a Representative Payee Director to lead these efforts from our Maquoketa Administration Office, guiding a team dedicated to making a meaningful impact through financial stewardship and person-centered support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing multiple financial accounts or fiduciary services.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing a team, including performance management and staff development.
  • Proven audit experience, including preparation, coordination, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, internal controls, and financial reporting.
  • High level of integrity with a strong commitment to confidentiality and ethical financial management.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and financial management systems.

  • Must have ability to drive and transport for service provision as needed.
  • Must remain awake and alert during working hours, where applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the Representative Payee Services department.
  • Oversee the financial management of approximately 375 individual beneficiary accounts, ensuring accuracy, accountability, and compliance.
  • Ensure full compliance with SSA Representative Payee regulations, internal controls, and organizational policies.
  • Manage, mentor, and evaluate a team of payee staff, including accounting and administrative personnel.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls, accounting procedures, and documentation standards.
  • Prepare for, coordinate, and respond to internal and external audits; serve as the primary audit liaison.
  • Review and approve budgets, disbursements, reconciliations, and monthly/annual financial reports.
  • Identify and mitigate financial risk, including fraud prevention and corrective action plans.
  • Collaborate with leadership, case managers, guardians, and external stakeholders.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and service quality.
  • Stay current on changes in SSA regulations, state requirements, and best practices in fiduciary services.
