About The Position

The Patient Access Representative I is responsible for gathering patient demographic and financial information, entering it into the computer system, assigning patient rooms, preparing necessary documentation, and transporting or escorting patients to their assigned areas. Key duties include obtaining appropriate signatures, answering telephones, managing bed assignments, ordering stat cleans, and communicating with the house supervisor. The role also involves informing patients of hospital regulations, securing armbands, obtaining signatures on various documents, and determining the need for hospital-issued Advance Beneficiary Notices (ABN waivers). Additionally, the representative will meet and greet patients, scan physician orders, drivers' licenses, insurance cards, and consents, and pre-register scheduled tests. Adherence to all safety, infection control, colleague health, HIPAA, and EMTALA policies and procedures is required. This is a full-time position, 32 hours per pay period, and includes working holidays and weekends.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and understand the English language.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, staff and physicians while performing their job duties.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Windows experience.
  • Database software experience.
  • Mainframe information systems experience.
  • Ability to convey positive image and communicate tactfully and professionally with staff, patients and the public.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to work under pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of Medical Secretary program or other general office training.
  • One-year medical office experience (scheduling, insurance, or registration).
  • Hospital experience.
  • Medical terminology knowledge.

Responsibilities
