About The Position

This part-time Patient Access Representative I position at MercyOne Northeast Iowa in Cedar Falls involves gathering patient demographic and financial information, entering it into the computer system, assigning patient rooms, preparing appropriate documentation, and transporting/escorting patients to their assigned areas. Key duties include obtaining necessary signatures, answering telephones, managing bed assignments, ordering stat cleans, and communicating with the house supervisor. The role also requires informing patients of hospital regulations, securing armbands, obtaining signatures on documents, and determining the need for Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN waivers). The representative will meet and greet patients, scan physician orders, driver's licenses, insurance cards, and consents, and pre-register all scheduled tests. Adherence to safety, infection control, colleague health policies, HIPAA, and EMTALA regulations is mandatory. The position is located in the Women's and Outpatient area, serving patients for Surgery, Outpatient Clinic, Wound Clinic, and Breast Clinic check-in.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and understand the English language, and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, staff and physicians while performing their job duties.
  • Strong computer skills, Windows experience.
  • Database software, mainframe information systems.
  • Ability to convey positive image and communicate tactfully and professionally with staff, patients and the public.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people and to work under pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of Medical Secretary program or other general office training.
  • One- year medical office experience (scheduling, insurance, or registration).
  • Hospital experience and or medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers patient demographic and financial information.

  • Assures patient escorted/transported to assigned area.
  • Meet and greet patients as registration process begins.
  • Scans all needed information (physician orders, drivers licenses, insurance cards, consents, etc.).
  • Pre-register all scheduled tests.
  • Adheres to all safety, infection control and colleague health policies and procedures.
  • Follows HIPAA, and EMTALA regulations per hospital policy.
