The New York Times is hiring reporters for its 2027 Fellowship class. Fellows are assigned to a news or features department and report directly to editors on their desk. They develop journalistic skills while working with editors and reporters and may produce traditional reported articles, live updates, explainers, and visually focused stories, engaging readers in different ways. Fellows are based in New York unless otherwise noted; Technology fellows are based in San Francisco and Washington fellows in Washington. The fellowship is an in-office position requiring regular attendance four days each week, with some potential flexibility to work remotely subject to departmental guidance. Some night, weekend, and holiday work may be required. The program begins on or about June 7, 2027, and ends May 26, 2028, subject to satisfactory performance. There is no guarantee of a full-time position after the program. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; the company will not sponsor work visas, but will consider applicants with valid work authorization or a valid student visa extendable through Optional Practical Training. The role is represented by the NewsGuild of New York.
