The New York Times is hiring a photographer for its 2027 Fellowship class. Fellows work with Times photo editors on daily news and enterprise assignments across many sections, developing skills in news and feature photography, news judgment, editing, video journalism, visual narratives, lighting techniques and aesthetic direction. Fellows also initiate enterprise projects in collaboration with photo editors. The position is based either at the New York headquarters, covering a mix of assignments, or at the Washington bureau, mainly covering Capitol Hill and the White House. It is an in-office role with regular attendance four days per week, with possible flexibility to work remotely according to departmental guidance. Some nights, weekends and holidays may be required. The fellowship is scheduled to begin on or about June 7, 2027, and end on May 26, 2028, subject to satisfactory performance. Completion does not guarantee a full-time position. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; work visa sponsorship is not available, though applicants with valid work authorization or an extendable student visa with Optional Practical Training may be considered.
