About The Position

Start your journalism career where stories take shape. As a Reporter Trainee, working 15 hours per week you’ll gather meaningful content, sharpen your storytelling skills, and contribute to impactful News & Current Affairs coverage including a special investigative project focused on opioid addiction and recovery all while upholding the highest journalistic standards. Requirements

  • Grade 12 education / GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of Internet, software, E-mail and television broadcast technology is required
  • Demonstrated experience using a variety of different methods for research
  • Demonstrated confidence and ability to initiate calls, interviews, contacts, etc.
  • Ability to articulate and effectively communicate issues relevant to Indigenous communities

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, and pitch story ideas while assessing newsworthiness for target audiences
  • Gather and write content, including researching background, interviewing sources, and preparing story outlines
  • Assist in producing full story packages for multi-platform use, including visuals and supporting elements
  • Monitor national and local news to stay current on emerging issues and relevant events
  • Develop and maintain sources and contacts to support ongoing news gathering
