About The Position

CBC Toronto’s Enterprise Unit is responsible for delivering highly original enterprise and investigative content for all platforms. Allied closely with the daily news desk, the team also provides research and context on major breaking stories. You are a seasoned journalist with extensive sources and demonstrated experience at finding and telling enterprise and investigative stories. You bring an ability to understand and distill complex information through creative story-telling. You have the curiosity, energy and commitment needed to see an investigative story through its research stages. You have an advanced understanding of legal requirements in journalism, in addition to CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices. You have developed an extensive stable of sources to provide you with tips, information and context for your reports. You have proven experience filing FOI and ATIP requests and accessing information through various public financial and legal databases. You are a journalist who can skillfully deliver a story to CBC’s news programs, whether on video, audio, live programming and on social platforms. You are a gifted writer with a strong track record. Reporting to the Senior Producer of the Enterprise Unit, you will find and pitch original stories that are relevant to a wide audience. You respect and support the goals of reflective journalism and actively work to promote a variety of perspectives and lived experience in your work. You are collaborative and are open to feedback and suggestions to ensure the work that you do has maximal journalistic impact. You are confident and have a track record in delivering on accountability journalism. You also have the sensitivity to deal with difficult subject matter and vulnerable interviewees. You are able to work quickly, pivot as needed, and are eminently capable of carrying many files at once. This role requires full time on site presence.

Requirements

  • Extensive investigative news reporting experience.
  • Exceptional writing skills across all platforms.
  • Proven on-air interviewing and live reporting skills.
  • Established sources and a history of developing meaningful stories through them.
  • Thorough understanding of CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • Sound editorial judgment; strong critical and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a record of working well in a team.
  • Ability to juggle multiple files at once and to plan, organize and coordinate your work to meet tight deadlines.
  • Initiative and resourcefulness.
  • A university degree in journalism or equivalent.
  • Seven years journalism experience.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, overtime and weekends, as required.
  • This position requires you to work in the CBC Toronto office full-time.

Responsibilities
