About The Position

Tamron Americas is the U.S. and Americas subsidiary of Tamron Co., Ltd., a major Japanese optical-lens manufacturer with a history dating back to the 1950s. Tamron Americas handles sales, marketing, support, and distribution of Tamron’s products throughout North and South America, including the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Latin American markets. The company offers a wide range of interchangeable photographic lenses for major camera brands (e.g., Sony, Nikon, Canon, Fujifilm) plus industrial optics for machine vision and surveillance applications. The Repair Technician is a highly skilled individual with a unique trade who will work alongside the rest of the service team and repair our products with accuracy and efficiency. The Technician will be responsible for learning and following our specified guidelines for proper photographic lens repair and will also serve as a technical liaison to the customer service department.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ technical repair experience required; photographic or optical fields preferred.
  • Proficient in PC-based computer programs, especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Must be able to use diagnostic tools to assess lenses.
  • Must have mechanical aptitude and the dexterity to use hand tools.
  • Must be able to read and understand repair manuals.
  • Must have good organizational & prioritization skills in order to manage the daily workflow.
  • Must be able to diagnose, repair and test problems as they arise; excellent troubleshooting skills needed.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and troubleshoot lenses sent in for repair.
  • Uses diagnostic tools and equipment to determine repair plans.
  • Use repair manuals for guidance.
  • Disassemble lens to physically diagnose and inspect lens components.
  • Determine faulty parts to be replaced, repair and reassemble lens to product specifications.
  • Use test equipment to confirm lens is performing to factory specifications and passes inspections.
  • Clean and calibrate lenses.
  • Maintain an individual repair output of 3-5 pieces per day with a redo rate of less than 3%.
  • Assist the department in maintaining its repair goal of a three-day turnaround time.
  • Support the customer service team by answering their technical questions.
  • Perform all other required duties assigned by the department manager
