About The Position

The Universal Group, recognized as one of Canada's Best Managed companies in 2025, has an exciting opportunity in our Fleet and Rental team. As the Rental Technician, you are responsible for the safe and efficient delivery, pickup, and basic field servicing of trailered traffic control equipment, including speed readers, CMS boards, and portable traffic signals. This role involves transporting equipment to and from job sites, performing basic diagnostics and troubleshooting in the field, and ensuring all equipment is clean, functional, and ready for deployment. Working primarily outdoors, the Rental Technician plays a key role in supporting operations by maintaining equipment reliability and providing responsive, on-site service to meet customer and project needs. This is a 3-month contract that can be extended based on Operational Needs. The expected start date for this position is May 8 at the latest.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driving record
  • Experience or willingness to learn how to tow trailers
  • Ability to take constructive feedback well and apply feedback
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Physical capability to lift, move, handle equipment up to 25 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport, deliver, and pick up trailered traffic control rental equipment to and from job sites
  • Operate company vehicles and trailers in compliance with all safety regulations and company policies
  • Load, secure, and unload equipment properly to prevent damage and ensure safe transport
  • Manage time effectively to meet delivery schedules and operational demands
  • Perform basic field diagnostics and troubleshooting on equipment (speed display boards, CMS boards, portable traffic signals)
  • Complete minor repairs and adjustments in the field; escalate complex issues
  • Inspect equipment upon pickup and delivery to ensure functionality and identify damage or maintenance needs
  • Maintain equipment to company standards (clean, functional, deployment-ready)
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety standards at all times
  • Ensure compliance with transportation, safety, and regulatory requirements
  • Report incidents, damages, or safety concerns promptly
  • Accurately complete required documentation using company-approved mobile applications
  • Utilize a personal mobile phone to access apps, communicate, and complete reporting
  • Maintain clear and professional communication with internal teams and clients on-site
