About The Position

The Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Subject Matter Expert (SME) at Chevron is responsible for providing technical leadership and strategic planning for ROV operations supporting offshore construction, inspection, maintenance, and repair activities. The ROV SME plays a critical role in ensuring that all ROV-related activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with Chevron policies and industry standards. This position directly supports project success by aligning ROV operations with organizational and regulatory requirements. This role may require periodic offshore travel and work in challenging marine environments. The ROV SME will collaborate closely with onshore and offshore teams to ensure seamless project execution and uphold Chevron’s commitment to safety and operational excellence. Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. These may evolve based on operational or business requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in offshore ROV operations with a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience (ROV Superintendent or Supervisor)
  • Proven track record of technical leadership (Project Management experience preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of ROV systems, subsea equipment, offshore construction and inspection processes
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations (API, IMCA, DNV, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and lead multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in ROV operation, offshore safety, or related areas is highly desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Marine Technology, Robotics, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Play a key role in the planning and execution of ROV operations for offshore projects, including construction, inspection, maintenance, and repair.
  • Develop and implement best practices for safe and effective ROV deployment and operation.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to project teams, contractors, and stakeholders regarding ROV technologies and applications.
  • Ensure compliance with Chevron’s safety policies, operational standards, and relevant industry regulations.
  • Manage the ROV aspect of Chevron’s Subsea Installation Vessel Assurance Program (SIVAP).
  • Responsible for the completion of ROV Audits either in person or via 3rd party contractors.
  • Review and approve ROV operational plans, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Evaluate new ROV technologies and recommend solutions that enhance operational efficiency and safety.
  • Conduct training, mentorship, and competency assessments for ROV operators and support personnel.
  • Monitor ROV performance, troubleshoot technical issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain documentation and records related to ROV activities, inspections, and incidents.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, HSE, marine, and project management.
