About The Position

CAMS is currently seeking a Remote Operations Center (ROC) Operator to monitor and control the operation of all CAMS managed wind, Photovoltaic (PV), and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) assets. Each CAMS ROC operator is responsible for the safe and reliable operation of all CAMS monitored Wind, PV, and BESS assets. This involves maintaining high operational standards to maximize system performance while adhering to all relevant compliance requirements. The CAMS ROC operator also guarantees that operations are aligned with the NERC Cybersecurity and Reliability Standards, which are critical for safeguarding the integrity and security of the energy infrastructure. Additionally, ROC operators are tasked with operating in strict accordance with Regional Transmission and ISO Tariffs, ensuring the reliable and efficient functioning of generation assets within the bulk electric system. This comprehensive approach aims to support a resilient, secure, and efficient energy supply, meeting both regulatory standards and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • High school diploma AND 1+ years of experience in any of the following fields: renewable or utility remote operations, power plant operations, industrial control systems, military technical operations or related energy sector.
  • Must contain a basic electrical understanding to be able to learn more complex electrical systems. Familiarity with the following: Ohm's Law/AC and DC electricity/Kirchoff's Laws/Solar Panel Operation/Inverter Operation/Power Transformer Operation/Transmission Basics.
  • Must be able to interpret one-line electrical diagrams and analytical graphs.
  • Must be willing to work a rotating shift schedule and work overtime, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be comfortable working at a computer in an office setting for 12 hours at a time.
  • Ability to communicate orally over the phone as well as in written electronic format.
  • Experience and working knowledge with Microsoft Office suite of tools including Word, Excel and Teams.
  • Two-year college degree in Electrical Technology, other engineering related degree, or 2 years of remote operation control center experience in either utility scale renewables, transmission or generation.
  • 2 years of working knowledge and experience with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) or Energy Management System (EMS) applications.
  • 2 years of relevant working knowledge or direct work experience with one or more ISO/RTOs (ERCOT, MISO, PJM, CAISO, SPP, NYISO, AESO)
  • Minimum of 24 consecutive months as a Consolidated Asset Management Services (CAMS) employee.
  • 5 years of remote operation control center experience in either utility scale renewables, transmission or generation.
  • 5 years of working knowledge and experience with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) or Energy Management System (EMS) applications.
  • 5 years of relevant working knowledge or direct work experience with either ERCOT, MISO, PJM, CAISO, SPP, NYISO, AESO or other ISO or RTO.
  • Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work on-call including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Capable of operating computer systems and control interfaces for prolonged periods.
  • Capacity to remain alert and focused during extended periods of monitoring and control activities.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to monitor alarms and system indicators using accurate auditory and visual perception.
  • Good vision and hearing abilities to monitor alarms and system indicators effectively.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for operating control interfaces.
  • Strong communication skills to relay information clearly and effectively to team members, clients, and on-site personnel.
  • Willingness to undergo training in safety procedures and emergency protocols in the event of an evacuation-related emergency.
  • Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business.
  • Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and operate multiple substations and power plant resources using SCADA systems, DAS platforms, alarm management, and other computer systems to ensure system reliability and maximize site production.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders (ROC leadership, O&M, Asset Managers, NERC/Compliance, etc.), and external stakeholders (asset owner, Transmission Operators (TOP), Qualified Scheduling Entities (QSE), Independent System Operator (ISO), Regional Transmission Operator (RTO), Balancing Authorities (BA) to maximize system reliability, performance and assure contractual and regulatory compliance.
  • Accountable for safe, reliable, and compliant daily operations for all sites.
  • Respond to alarms and abnormal system conditions, initiating timely corrective actions.
  • Ability to assess risk and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with field personnel during routine operations, maintenance, and emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate shift logs, operational records, setpoint changes, and compliance documentation.
  • Understand and follow 3-part communication requirements for all incoming and outgoing calls.
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity, physical security, and access control procedures.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of procedures and system reliability.
  • Effectively communicate with customers and other control centers to provide updates, outage information, coordinate activities, and ensure seamless operations
  • Anticipate customer needs and proactively address concerns, ensuring a positive experience aligned with CAMS values.
