About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians flexible work in two settings: Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Online scheduling allows veterinarians to select shifts that fit their lifestyle, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts required and weekday and weekend hours available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, while trained, experienced staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Veterinarians receive a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, and a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. These locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some in mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Their equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and fully equipped surgery suites. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and there are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
State veterinary license in good standing.
Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
At full-service hospitals, provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
Perform shift functions permitted by applicable state licensing, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
Comply with local, state, and federal mandates.
