About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services is hiring a relief veterinarian to work at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role offers flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement and weekday and weekend shifts available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees. The appointment-based model supports managed patient flow and timely departures. Trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgery, and dental procedures. Hospital facilities include digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites. Hospital relief shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call duties. The position includes access to clinic news and updates through a monthly newsletter and a 15% discount on Petco products and services. New Jersey state bid rates average $136–$170 per hour; rates may vary based on clinic location and shift duration.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at Vetco Total Care full-service hospitals.
- Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during selected relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At full-service hospitals, provide services such as preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Perform shift functions in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
