Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians the opportunity to work at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Flexible online scheduling lets veterinarians choose shifts that fit their schedules, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts required and weekday and weekend hours available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift and may continue other practice activities outside Petco shifts, with no agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports veterinarians leaving on time, while trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located in Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals offer preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgery, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic surgery tables and anesthesia monitoring. Hospital relief shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call work. New Jersey state bid rates average $136–$170 per hour. Shift rates may vary by clinic location and shift duration.
